ABOUT US

Our Story...

Arowhenua Native Nursery and Restoration began with a vision to reconnect people with the whenua through native plant restoration.

As a Māori-led business, we're dedicated to strengthening both our whenua (land) and tangata whenua (people) for generations to come.

History

Founded by Te Rūnaka o Arowhenua in 2021, we started with two Jobs for Nature projects aligned with DOC's vision for the Rakitata Awa (Rangitata River). Our initial focus was creating nature-based employment opportunities for rūnanga members.

From these roots, we've grown into a thriving commercial nursery and restoration service provider, delivering premium eco-sourced natives and expert environmental services across Waitaha Canterbury.

Social Impact

Beyond our commercial work, we create lasting value for our community through:

  • Professional development pathways for kaimahi (employees)

  • Community education initiatives

  • Environmental enhancement projects

Whenua

Proudly owned by Te Runaka o Arowhena, we maintain strong connections with our hapū, ensuring our work honours and strengthens these vital relationships.

Our Values

Our values guide every aspect of our work:

AUAHATANGA

Giving space for kaimahi to learn, adapt, problem solve, and confront challenges

MANAKITANGA

Building strong relationships based on mutual trust and respect

WHAKAWHAUNAGATANGA

Building strong relationships and working together to provide kaimahi with a sense of belonging

KAITIAKITANGA

When you work with us, you're not just getting plants.

You're supporting a vision of environmental and community regeneration. Every plant we grow and every project we undertake contributes to the wellbeing of our whenua and people.
