Contract Growing
Needing specific plants or eco-sourcing locations? We offer specialised growing services:
Seed collection takes place between November and February, depending on the species and habitat, and it can take up to 3 years for larger plants and slower growers to be ready.
Make sure you plan ahead!

Eco-Sourcing
What is eco-sourcing?
Eco-sourcing is the process of collecting seeds from remnant native bush as close as possible to where they will be planted. It's an important aspect of our restoration projects and means the plants more likely to survive for future generations to enjoy. By planting our eco-sourced native plants you are helping to maintain our whenua’s unique character!
We follow scientifically supported eco-sourcing principles based on Heenan et al. (2023), using broadly defined ecological regions to ensure both local habitat adaptation and genetic resilience to disease.
Our Principles:
1. Meticulous source recording
We document and track every seed source location
2. Quality source selection
We prioritise:
Natural forest remnants
Established older plantings isolated from amenity plantings
Cuttings from shrubs when seeds aren't available
3. Complete transparency
Customers receive detailed seed source information for all plants
4. Genetic diversity
We embrace biodiversity through appropriate genetic mixing within ecological regions
5. Professional tracking
All plants are propagated with crop numbers for full traceability
Why It Matters
Every native plant community has unique characteristics shaped by their environment:
Local adaptations to climate and soil conditions
Natural resistance to certain diseases
Distinct and beneficial growth patterns
Genetic diversity that supports ecosystem resilience
This approach balances the benefits of local adaptation with the need for genetic diversity and climate resilience, ensuring our restored ecosystems can thrive for generations to come.
